Arthur E. Apolinario, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.F.P. is a rural, Board-Certified Family Physician in North Carolina and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has been trained not only in medicine and public health, but enhances his practice with hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming, and emotional freedom technique. These “alternatives” or complementary health practices have enhanced his practice of medicine to allow him to do amazing things with obesity, smoking cessation, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, life coaching and motivation, fibromyalgia, sleep disorders, and many other common yet “difficult to treat” conditions.
He grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, trained at Tulane University School of Medicine to get his MD degree and at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine to get his Masters in Public Health in Health Systems Management in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was a member of the Krewe of Zeus Mardi Gras organization as well.
Dr. Apolinario is known as “Dr. Art” to his patients and was voted “Best Doctor” by the citizens of Sampson County, North Carolina through a newspaper poll at the Sampson Independent in 2008 based on his people skills and bedside manner, his up-to-date medical knowledge and his incorporation of holistic techniques that treat issues not amenable to medicines alone.
He is in private practice with The Clinton Medical Clinic, Inc., formerly at their satellite office in Newton Grove and now in their main office in Clinton, NC. He is on staff at Sampson Regional Medical Center, served as the hospital’s Medical Staff Secretary, Vice President, and eventually President, and was an Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine for UNC Chapel Hill Medical School teaching medical students in Family Medicine. He still actively teaches medical students as well as physician assistants in training. He was previously in charge of the NC Office of Rural Health Rural Practitioner training program, training Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in Rural-Based Care.
Dr. Art is active in the community having served two terms on the Board of Directors of the U Care Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center including 2 terms as Board President. He had also served the NC Governor’s Crime Commision, Council on Domestic Violence under Governor Easley. In 2001 he was the recipient of the AMA Young Physician’s Section Community Service Award for his work in domestic violence prevention. (see page 9 of the pdf to see the citation)
He has been active in the North Carolina Medical Society and the American Medical Association serving as delegates to both organizations as a medical student, resident, and “Young Physician” and had successfully passed policy relating to healthcare and childhood obesity as well as domestic violence. He has been president of his local county society, the Sampson County Medical Society, since 2004.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in English Literature from Gannon University, he went on to New Orleans, LA for his MD at Tulane. He moved to Erie, PA to serve his residency in Family Medicine at Saint Vincent Health System, and moved on to Newton Grove, NC to join the Clinton Medical Clinic. He first was the attending physician for the first state-run rural clinics in the state in Harrells, NC and Newton Grove, NC through Rural Medical Services, serving as a clinical instructor for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in the state who wished to have more rural training before going into practice, until Clinton Medical Clinic took Newton Grove Medical Center over from Rural Medical Services to form Newton Grove Family Medicine, where Doctor Apolinario previously practiced. He has since been moved to Clinton, NC.
In 2009 he got his training in Hypnotherapy from Hypnosis Motivation Institute and through mentorship with Cliff Young, C. Ht., and also has training in Neurolinguistic programming and Emotional Freedom technique.
When not providing care or advice to his many patients, Dr. Art enjoys cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes NHL Hockey team, Facebooking, and reading books on evolutionary psychology and dating science. He was recently the final speaker at TedxRaleigh 2012, and was voted one of the top dating coaches in the nation as well. He loves going back to New Orleans for the Jazz and Heritage Festival. He especially enjoys his time with his 2 children.
